In addition to its ergonomic advantages, water-fed poles have helped to eliminate the streaks on glass that are often associated with the use of unfiltered water and detergents. Today鈥檚 water-fed poles use a reverse osmosis deionization (RO/DI) filtration system to purify water.鈥淚n the past 15 years the advent of pure water has dramatically changed the use of water-fed poles,鈥 says Evans. 鈥淲hen using tap water, people noticed occasional streaking or spotting on the glass. The benefit of using pure water is we eliminated about 99 percent of streaking on the glass, and in many cases pure water eliminates the soap requirement, as well.鈥澨鼴y skipping the step of applying and rinsing off soap, window washers are also able to work more quickly, which translates into labor savings, as well as environmental benefits.听鈥淵ou no longer have detergent leaking down into flowerbeds and onto shrubs,鈥 says Condie.听Furthermore, purified water makes water-fed poles effective tools for cleaning exterior surfaces beyond windows, such as painted metal or stone.鈥淭hese tools only go up to about five stories, but the majority of buildings we service in the United States are not high-rise buildings,鈥 says Condie. 鈥淚f you look at the safety factor and the number of buildings that are three to five stories, you鈥檝e taken a huge chunk of the window cleaning market and made it very safe to service these facilities.鈥
